WaterWerks 14th Annual Diaper Drop Raises Over 25,000 Diapers
On January 16, 2024, WaterWerks Agency wrapped up the 14th Annual Diaper Drop in St. John’s, NL.
Thanks to amazing partners, friends, and family, this year, we collected a grand total of 25,418 diapers and donations, all of which were brought to the Community Food Sharing Association who will distribute these diapers to families across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Diaper Drop was first conceptualized in 2009 when the team learned of the sad reality that one in five Canadian parents often have to cut back on essentials like food, medicine, child care, and utilities just to afford diapers for their babies.
Fourteen years after its launch, thousands of parents in the province continue to be faced with this dilemma. As cited by WaterWerks Partner Stephen Tessier in an interview with the News Forum, “Even in the past 14 years, the cost of disposable diapers has gone from low $20’s, to almost $40 a pack. So if you’re a single mom or dad, and you’re trying to make a choice between buying fresh fruit & vegetables or a pack of diapers, it’s a struggle.”
Over the last 14 years, the annual Diaper Drop has collected and donated over 700,000 diapers to families throughout the province.
We couldn’t have done this without the generous support of colleagues, family & friends all these years. As we go into our 15th Diaper Drop later this year, we’re confident that together as a community, we can continue donating more diapers to make sure families will have more food on the table.Roxanne Morrissey, Owner
